I have recently been listening to a lot of Scandinavian/Nordic musicians. No, really. Besides Adele and I Blame Coco (who are British) and Hank and Cupcakes who are Israelis living in Brooklyn, it’s all I’ve been listening to that isn’t related to the show.
Out of Iceland I’ve been listening to Mammut, Rökkurró and Of Monsters and Men. From Norway, I’ve been digging The School and Ida Maria. Sweden brings Lykke Li and Robyn. I am becoming increasingly enamored of Agnes Obel from Denmark. See? It’s a real problem. Or is it? And why is the music coming from all these countries so appealing to me? I have no idea but it is. So now, for your viewing enjoyment, I’ve posted a couple of videos because really, what would the world be without YouTube?
Lykke Li “Get Some” From Later With Jools Holland
Rökkurró “Sólin mun skína”
Agnes Obel “Riverside”
Ida Maria- Morning Light
Jenny Owen Youngs- Dissolve
Eleisha Eagle- Best You Never Had
Chris Pureka- August 28th
Alina Simone- My Sadness Is Luminous
Laura Veirs- July Flame
Mieka Pauley- We’re All Gonna Die
Ida Maria’s album Fortress Round My Heart was one of my favorites for 2009. It makes me happy to know that in 2011, it looks like we’ll be getting a new album from her. Here is her new video Quite Nice People which is a very low key Ida Maria, but still a beautiful song.
Grace Potter and the Nocturnals- Paris (ooh la la)
Ida Maria- Stella
Uh Huh Her- Say So
Hunter Valentine- Treadmills of Love
Chix 6- Babe
Paramore- Let The Flames Begin
It’s almost my birthday so that means an extra long show with some of my favorite songs.

Lately, people have been asking me what I’ve been listening to the most lately. I thought I would give you a visual of what I can’t stop listening to.
Florence + The Machine I love Florence Welch’s voice. I think her album “Lungs” is brilliant. Here is the video for one of my favorite songs by her, “Dog Days Are Over”
Hunter Valentine I get a lot of pitches from PR people about bands. I look at all of them. Sometimes, they are good and sometimes…not so much. However, I got a pitch about Hunter Valentine and immediately went crazy. I love them. Like a mix of Joan Jett and The Pretenders and a little Brody Dalle (distillers) thrown in.
Sonia LeighShe’s been a fixture in the Atlanta music scene for a while, but she’s about to blow up. Zac Brown signed her to his Southern Ground label and she’s been supporting the Zac Brown Band on tour all over the country and getting lots of praise for her performances and her music.
I Blame Coco Her dad is a legend, but I like her much better!
Ida Maria Words fail me. I love Ida Maria.
Happy New Year!!!
