I have recently been listening to a lot of Scandinavian/Nordic musicians. No, really. Besides Adele and I Blame Coco (who are British) and Hank and Cupcakes who are Israelis living in Brooklyn, it’s all I’ve been listening to that isn’t related to the show.
Out of Iceland I’ve been listening to Mammut, Rökkurró and Of Monsters and Men. From Norway, I’ve been digging The School and Ida Maria. Sweden brings Lykke Li and Robyn. I am becoming increasingly enamored of Agnes Obel from Denmark. See? It’s a real problem. Or is it? And why is the music coming from all these countries so appealing to me? I have no idea but it is. So now, for your viewing enjoyment, I’ve posted a couple of videos because really, what would the world be without YouTube?

These are 4 artists who had albums come out in 2010 that I was most obsessed with.

I Blame Coco- Caesar, Quicker, Selfmachine
Lissie- Record Collector, Bully, Pursuit of Happiness
Sarah Jaffe- Clementine, Better Than Nothing, Vulnerable
Hunter Valentine- Scarface, Revenge, The Stalker.

Happy New Year!

One day I was told that I tend to really like artists who sound similar. I didn’t really see it at first. But maybe despite being from very different genres, the tone of their voice is similar. Below are 3 of my favorites from this year in no particular order. What do you think?

Florence + The Machine- Heavy In Your Arms
I Blame Coco- How Did All Of These Peole Get Into My Room
Metric- Gold Guns Girls
Pomplamoose- Hail Mary
Camp Out- My Arms
Elizabeth and the Catapult- Race You
She & Him- Fools Rush In

Lately, people have been asking me what I’ve been listening to the most lately. I thought I would give you a visual of what I can’t stop listening to.

Florence + The Machine I love Florence Welch’s voice. I think her album “Lungs” is brilliant. Here is the video for one of my favorite songs by her, “Dog Days Are Over”

Hunter Valentine I get a lot of pitches from PR people about bands. I look at all of them. Sometimes, they are good and sometimes…not so much. However, I got a pitch about Hunter Valentine and immediately went crazy. I love them. Like a mix of Joan Jett and The Pretenders and a little Brody Dalle (distillers) thrown in.

Sonia LeighShe’s been a fixture in the Atlanta music scene for a while, but she’s about to blow up. Zac Brown signed her to his Southern Ground label and she’s been supporting the Zac Brown Band on tour all over the country and getting lots of praise for her performances and her music.

I Blame Coco Her dad is a legend, but I like her much better!

Ida Maria Words fail me. I love Ida Maria.
